You were on your way home from tuition, and were really hungry. In an attempt to ignore the pangs of hunger which are driving you nuts, you stuffed an ear bud in your right ear and turned your mp3 player on. (Insert favourite Kagamine Len song) was playing in your ear and you hummed along to the lyrics. You adored the little banana loving blonde, and sometimes hoped that you would be able to meet him. But you knew that that was impossible. An ordinary girl like you, juggling between a school-girl life and writing fan-fictions , doesn't make it likely that you would even see him on stage. You were too busy that last time your friend ___(f/n)___ invited you to go to the Vocaloids' concert, you weren't able to go.
Reaching the bus stop, you checked the bus schedules. Damn. You had just missed the bus to (insert street). Thank you, hungry stomach, you thought to yourself. Taking a bottle of mineral water out from your sling bag which was packed with books, you took a sip, hoping that would make you feel less hungry. It didn't work though. All it did was make you hungrier.
You turned off your mp3 player and sighed, staring off into the distance, more precisely at the rows of newly opened shops on the opposite side of the road.
"Hngh... I wonder if there are any food stands there. At least a vending machine with snacks... I'm starving..." Your mouth watered at the thought of food. Not wanting to pass out from hunger, you pushed yourself forward, making sure to look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.
Since rows of shops had just opened there, it was quite busy, bustling with activity,: There were people dressed in mascot costumes attracting customers into the stores, people entering and exiting shops and the smell of doughnuts filled the air-- Wait, doughnuts?
The wonderful scent of the pastries played within your nasal cavities, your tastebuds being tortured by the delightful flavors dancing in your mouth. There was the smell of vanilla, then chocolate, and there was also the scent of butterscotch. Nope. You couldn't take it anymore. The smells are driving you crazy and you just had to find the doughnut shop right there and then.
Following the wonderfully appetizing scents had led you to a Dunkin' Doughnuts outlet. Upon entering said establishment, delectable smells taunted you yet again. The store was surprisingly empty though.
" Guess the patrons are all at the other stores, huh?" You quietly chuckled to yourself. Your stomach began to rumble again.
" Okay, rumbly-in-my-tumbly. Let's get ourselves a doughnut." You said, patting your belly as you made your way to the counter.
" Welcome to Dunkin' Doughnuts! Which one would you have today?" The boy at the counter chirped with a wide, friendly smile plastered on his face. You scanned the menu he handed to you. " Hmmm... What's this one?" You asked, pointing to the picture of a doughnut with a smiley face on it.
"Oh! That's Mr. Happy! It's a banana cream-filled doughnut with lemon icing. You should try it!" He suggested. You gave it a bit of thought.
"Hmmmm..... Okay, I'll try it." The boy nodded, turning his back to you for a while, taking something out of the display case behind him.
"Here. Enjoy your doughnut~" chirped the boy. " Thanks, how much is it please?" You asked, reaching in your pocket for your wallet.
" No, no. That one's complementary. For the first two people who buy a certain flavor, they get the doughnuts for free. It's our grand opening promotion and you're the second customer to buy a Mr. Happy doughnut."
"Oh! Well... Thanks!"
You proceed to an empty seat next to a person who was busy typing away at his laptop. You approached and that was when he noticed you and looked up from the screen. He had messy, blonde hair that was tied into a short ponytail, and wore a yellow shirt. He looked at you with turquoise eyes and smiled.
" Hey there! Do you want to sit here?" The blonde boy asked, smiling ear to ear.
" Oh! I-Is it okay for me to sit here?"
" Sure! come on!" he invited you to sit next to him, pulling the chair out for you.
You shyly nodded and sat next to him. He gave you another sweet smile and continued typing away on his laptop.
You watched him as he typed. He had a determined look on his face and found it looked cute. Wait, why am I even thinking about this? Ugh! Snap out of it, ___(y/n)___! You barely even know this guy! Though.... he does look familiar....And his voice sounds like....... No... He can't be--?
" You got a Mr. Happy too?" he asked, looking at you with those oh-so familiar turquoise eyes, awaiting your response.
" Y-Yeah.So, I'm guessing you got the first free one, huh?" He giggled.
"Lucky us~! If either of us hadn't come here early, we probably wouldn't get the free doughnuts, and I wouldn't have met you--"
He stopped mid-sentence, his face turning as red as a tomato. You felt your cheeks burning too. W-Why am I blushing from seeing him blushing?!
Both of you sat there in awkward silence, with both of your faces bright red. Suddenly, you heard a loud growl, which he also noticed. Realizing the sound came from your empty stomach, your bright red face only became a deeper shade of red. If it was possible, your face felt like it would catch fire soon.
" So... Are you gonna eat your doughnut?" he asked, snapping you out of your thoughts.
" H-Huh? Oh! Y-yeah, sure..." You looked at the table next to the boy's laptop. His doughnut was still in its box. "W-What about you?"
"Hang on. Just let me finish this... Just a little bit.... Whoops! Typo. Ummm.... and..... That's.... a wrap! Save!" He mumbled the entire time he was typing. When his Word Document was finished saving, he turned towards you with a triumphant grin on his cute face. Seriously... Why does he look so damn familiar? He can't be him... can he?
The blonde took the pastry out of its box and just held it. You looked at him puzzled, and he just returned the look you gave him.
"I was waiting for you to take the first bite."
You felt your face heat up again. Why are you so flustered by this boy? Why is he so familiar? Why won't your stomach just stop growling? You were reminded how hungry you were.
So, you opened the box, took out the doughnut and took a tiny bite out of it. You moved your tongue around in your mouth, tasting the piece of pastry in your mouth.
"So? How is it? Is it good?" He waited for you to answer expectantly.
" It.... It tastes...." His eyes gleamed and sparkled, waiting for you to tell him how good the doughnut tasted.
" It's...... So sweet~~ " You chirped and took another bite of the doughnut. He giggled from the answer you gave him. His childish giggle just sounded way too familiar. Do want to ask him for conformation?
Before he took a bite out of his doughnut, the blonde said: "My name is Len by the way. Len Kagamine" Nope. You didn't have to ask. But the revelation of the truth almost made you choke from shock and the doughnut chunks in your mouth.
"Whoah! You okay? Do you need a drink or something?" You waved your hand dismissively in front of him, taking your water bottle from your bag and gulped down a mouthful of water. " Are you okay?" You nodded. He sighed in relief.
"My name.... It's ___(y/n)___ ___(y/l/n)___."
"Whaaat?! You're ___(y/n)___?!" You were taken aback by his reaction, but nodded anyway.
" Oh man! I can't believe it's really, really you! I love the stories you write! So does my sister! You're practically a star at our school! Everyone knows your fan-fics!" His face lit up and he was literally grinning ear to ear. You were getting extremely flustered by his comments.
I can't believe it! Kagamine Len. The Kagamine Len, knows and loves the stories I write! Him! A person who is more well known and famous than I am, knows me! You were the type who preferred to use your real first name for any profiles you made on the net, including places like DeviantART and fanfiction.net, so the fact that he knew your name was no question.
" Really... Just...wow... Who would've thought? I thought this would just be another ordinary day, writing a song at a cafe, then you came here and-and we're sitting next to each other like this! We're even eating the same type of doughnut!"
" I'm a huge fan of you too, Len. I practically have all of your songs in here!" you exclaimed as you pulled your mp3 player out of your pocket holding it before him. " I've downloaded Servant of Evil, Butterfly on Your Right Shoulder, Fire Flower, Paradichlorobenzene, Re-Birthday, World Is Mine..."
You and Len got caught up in your heated conversation until your phone rang, interrupting your chat with the singer.
You got a message from ___(roomate's/sibling's name)___.
Hey! Where are you ___(y/n)___? It's getting late already! Hurry back! I made spaghetti XD Hurry back or I'll finish them all off myself >:3
That was when you noticed the time on your phone. 7.35 p.m.
"Oh no! I didn't even notice the time!" Len who was still looking at you, averted his gaze to the watch he wore. "Damn! I didn't notice either!"
"W-what should I do?! There aren't any buses at this hour headed home!" You began to panic, picking up your bag and rushing out of the cafe, leaving Len to follow behind you.
"Wait! You said there aren't any buses at this hour. Where are you going?"
"If I run, I should reach home by 9.15!"
"But it's dark out, and it's dangerous all alone. I'll take you home." He said, stopping you from running ahead.
You blushed and looked up at his oceanic eyes. "A-Are you sure it's alright?"
"Positive. Now come on! Like you said, if we go now, we'll get you home by 9.15"
He took your hand in his and started running, with you stumbling behind him until you got used to his speed. Now, your face felt like it was burning, and at the corner of your eye, you noticed a light pink dusting his cheeks as well.
*Time skip as you two only ran without making conversation, but of course laughing whenever either of you almost tripped*
"There! We're here, and at 9.15 sharp! You were right, ___(y/n)___!" He smiled cheerfully as he sat on your porch, panting. You were also panting, obviously as tired as the blonde boy.
"Len, thanks for accompanying me home and all but...how are you getting home?" he noticed the concerned look on your face.
" D-Don't worry about me... I already asked Kaito-nii to pick me up."
Your eyes grew wide. "When?" "While we were running."
You nodded, stifling a yawn. "Well...I better get inside, else ___(roomate's/sibling's name)___'ll get upset."
" Okay. Bye, ___(y/n)___."
You waved at him and was about to open the door when he called you back.
"Oh, wait! Here's my number. Text me if you wanna hang out again sometime, okay?"
You blushed, but took the piece of paper he held out to you.
While you examined the paper, Len planted a soft kiss on your cheek, his face turning bright red again. That made your face turn the similar shade of red. You watched as he ran off towards a car, where a man was standing next to. You knew at a glimpse that man was Kaito, coming to pick him up. You touched where he had pecked you, smiling.
Guess Mr. Happy has another way to make you happy.
